Many new artists use modern technology to their advantage by making a name for themselves online as a way of establishing their music career, and up and coming pop and RnB singer Steph Horne is no exception. Originally from Newcastle, Australia, Horne is quickly establishing herself as a recording artist, both in her hometown and overseas. At just 17, she fits her music career around her studies at a Performing Arts School and has already recorded several tracks and albums, the first of which was recorded in late 2003. She has tracks available via her Myspace page. and has videos available via YouTube, as well as her own Website with pictures, videos and information.
Horne's has been hailed by some reviewers as "the next Britney" according to the biography on her website and her success so far includes, her debut album, "Babygirl" reaching number 10 at www.mp3.com.au.
Her Myspace page describes her music as Club/Pop/RnB, and these are evidenced particularly clearly in the tracks Never Forget and Hold Me Down Tonight. She is, however, capable of breaking into other genres. Without you, for example, is much more mellow, and the comparisons to artists such as Britney Spears are more obvious, although she still clearly has a unique style to set her apart from these artists. Another example is Walk away! which is a surprising track in that it is much "punchier" than the other songs, with a slight rock influence and packed full of attitude, with a chorus which lingers in your mind long after hearing it, which makes this a stand out track.
She is also making a name for herself on You Tube. Her videos may be low quality, but show her potential as a recording artists nevertheless, and as we have seen in recent years, using You Tube to promote oneself is often advantageous and could be a sure fire way of getting discovered.
With this in mind, Horne's success, both online and further is likely to continue. Her music so far, demonstrates a talent and maturity beyond her years, which is likely to be an advantage in the future. Watch this Space!
